This year Essendon are hosting Carlton at the MCG on the Kings Birthday Eve. This is the second year in the row this new marquee fixture has been held.
The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), also known as “The ‘G”, is located in Yarra Park, Melbourne, Victoria. Run by the Melbourne Cricket Club, it is the largest stadium in the Southern Hemisphere, the 11th largest in the world, and the second largest cricket ground.
Since it was built in 1853, the MCG has had many Grandstands come and go. It was the main stadium of the 1956 Olympic Games, the 2006 Commonwealth Games and three Cricket World Cups, 50 overs in 1992 and 2015 and recently the 2022 20/20 event.

The Essendon Bombers were founded in 1872 and wear the colours red and black. The Bombers training facilities are at Tullamarine and home matches are played at the MCG and Marvel Stadium.
The Carlton Blues were founded in 1864 and wear the colours navy blue. The Blues training facilities are at Princess Park and home matches are played at both the MCG and Marvel Stadium.
